Code Breaking and Nature’s Patterns
About the event
This event is based around Alan Turing's incredible contribution to cracking the enigma code and shortening the war. Turing’s code breaking work saved countless lives by protecting ocean going craft (many of which were built in Barrow!). He was also a biologist, who’s work informed our understanding of how the infinite variety of stripes, spots, scales and feathers are formed in nature. Enjoy a range of activities inspired by Turing’s patterns and test your codebreaking skills! We’ll be making Morse code bracelets, sending and receiving Morse code messages, making ceaser cyphers, models of the enigma machine, and also cracking codes in our digital codebreaking challenge!
For younger children, we will have a scavenger hunt, searching for animals around the museum that use Turing's patterns. We'll also have lots of code-themed craft!
